I grew up to the smell of darkroom chemicals. My father was an RAF photographer/navigator leaning over the side of bi-planes photographing pre war India. Later he became a keen amateur photographer.  I started to take photos from around the age of five.
My life has been interesting and varied, teacher training, outdoor pursuits instructor, HM Coastguard Officer in Orkney and the West Coast of Scotland. Later Yachtmaster Instructor teaching sailing and motor boating. After 15 years I have retired from teaching navigation, sailing and power boating I completed a number of Photoshop and website design courses with the aim of building skills to excellent levels.  I am hoping to retire but aged 75 am still working a fair amount with my wife Glynis in our Property business.
I live in Petersfield, Hampshire with my wife Glynis and dogs Dylan and Roxy. I recently moved from Southsea on the South Coast where I lived for more than 20 years.
When I moved to Petersfield  I joined my first camera club - Petersfield Photographic Society. I am still learning what makes a good camera club competition photo. Not always good photos, but ones that judges like.

I was awarded the Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society in 2012.

GEAR
I am a Nikon user and have been since the birth of digital photography. Nikon have a superb range of of the very best quality lenses. My first SLR was a clunky Russian Zenith 35mm which slipped overboard in Loch Eil  about 1979. I moved up to an Olympus OM1, a great camera which I still use occasionally.
I am bothDSLR and mirrorless with a Nikon Z8,  a good camera but very little  lighter than my D850 which I use for studio work.
I have cameras and photo gear falling out of my ears including a  range of studio flash and fixed lights. tripods, gimbals, GoPro, too much - all the gear and little idea!
I have two drones.  A DJI Mavic 3 Pro and a Mavic Mini. Both are light enough to hike up a hill. The Mini with its' prop guard can be safely flown in otherwise restricted areas. The Mavic 3 Pro's camera has a 4/3 20 megapixel sensor and 4K video. giving very good image and video quality
The cameras on my two drones are fully controllable from the ground. Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure compensation and white balance, still or video can be adjusted in flight.
I have qualified  as a (by the CAA) drone pilot.
